BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Daxko, a software company that grew up in the Birmingham area, is bringing its global headquarters into downtown Birmingham. The company announced Thursday that it will open the new offices at 1728 Third Avenue North in April 2027.
Daxko sells software, including payment tools, to gyms, fitness centers and other health and wellness operators. It was founded in 1998 and counts as one of the first software firms in the state. The move comes after the company outgrew its current offices in Homewood.
About 130 Birmingham-area employees will relocate when the building opens, and the company expects that local team to climb past 200 within three years. Worldwide, Daxko has more than 850 workers, and the downtown site will serve as the hub for that wider staff.
Local employees will be in the office two to three days a week under a hybrid schedule. Staff will be able to work out in an onsite fitness studio between meetings, and they will park in a secured garage built onto the side of the offices.
Daxko also plans to open the space for community gatherings, along with customer roundtables, conferences and advisory board meetings, and says partnerships tied to the grand opening will be announced in the coming months.
Mayor Randall Woodfin called the decision a strong vote of confidence in the city. REV Birmingham, the nonprofit that helped with site selection, said the location places the company next to the district’s existing cluster of tech and innovation businesses.
Former Daxko employees have gone on to start a string of other local companies, including Fleetio, Airship and Compose, and company leaders described the downtown move as a return to the city where its tech roots began.
