BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — UAB will add five former Blazers from five different sports to its Athletics Hall of Fame in Birmingham next month, and the headliner is point guard Aaron Johnson, who led the nation in assists during his senior year.

Johnson spent four seasons running the UAB offense, earned two All-Conference USA nods and twice made the league All-Defensive team. Joining him are volleyball star Ivana Bozic, football defensive back and return man Rodregis Brooks, women’s basketball guard Carmen Guzman and tennis doubles standout Paul Rosner. Their careers stretch from 1992, when Rosner arrived, to 2011, when Johnson finished.

The class goes in on the evening of Friday, Nov. 20, with a 7 p.m. ceremony downtown at The Florentine on Second Avenue North. Interim athletics director Andy Kennedy, himself a former Blazer player and coach, called the group a reflection of the best the department has produced.

Johnson won the league’s top player award in 2011 and took UAB to the NCAA tournament that season. The school retired his No. 1 jersey in 2020. After a long pro run in Europe, he came home and now serves as director of player development and performance for the men’s team.

Bozic grew up in Serbia and earned All-America honors twice. In 2006 she helped the Blazers win their first league tournament crown and make a first NCAA tournament trip in 2006, and she topped 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. Brooks was a second-team All-American in 1999 and was a seventh-round NFL Draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2000. Guzman won Conference USA Player of the Year in 2006-07, and Rosner was an ITA doubles All-American three seasons running from 1993 to 1995.
