TAMPA, Fla. — UAB jumped out to a 10-0 lead Saturday at South Florida in Tampa, then watched the Bulls score the final 30 points of a 30-10 loss that dropped the Blazers to 4-4.

The Blazers got a 5-yard touchdown run from Rod Robinson II and a 30-yard field goal from Jonah Delange in the first quarter. That was the end of their scoring.

South Florida tied it in the second quarter on a 6-yard run by Jason Collins Jr. Then the Bulls’ defense took over. CJ Hicks sacked UAB four times, and two of those hits knocked the ball loose. Asani Redwood scooped up one fumble and ran it 6 yards for a score to put USF up 17-10 at the break, and Grayson Howard brought another back 13 yards for a touchdown after halftime.

Nico Gramatica added field goals from 30 and 33 yards in the second half and finished with three on the day.

Ryder Burton threw for 149 yards for UAB, which managed just 177 yards of total offense. South Florida had 237 yards and barely threw the ball, with quarterbacks Luke Kromenhoek and Michael Van Buren Jr. completing eight of 12 passes for 46 yards. Kromenhoek ran for 92 yards.

The Blazers’ own defense kept them in the game for long stretches, holding the Bulls to modest yardage and forcing South Florida to lean on its ground game. But the two turnovers turned into 14 points, and UAB’s offense could not move the ball consistently after its fast start.

UAB is now 2-2 in American Conference play. South Florida improved to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the league and became bowl eligible for a fourth straight year.
