JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. — Jefferson County Commission District 3 is on Tuesday’s ballot, with incumbent Commissioner Jimmie Stephens trying to hold off challenger Camara Blue.

Stephens is running on the work already underway. He has said his priorities are continuing infrastructure projects, economic development and job growth across the county, along with making county government run more efficiently.

Blue has pitched a listening tour. He has said that if he wins, he would spend his first 90 days meeting residents across District 3 to learn what they need, instead of leaning only on what local leaders tell him. He has also argued that the commission seat should belong to the people, not to either party.

Data centers have become a dividing line in the race. Stephens has said the facilities are welcome in Jefferson County but that some sites suit them and many others do not. Blue has said data centers are needed but that neighbors should get a direct voice when one is proposed near their homes.

Polls across Alabama are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and every voter must show a valid photo ID before casting a ballot. Secretary of State Wes Allen has pointed voters to AlabamaVotes.gov to check their registration, find their polling place and look over a county sample ballot. The statewide ballot also carries four proposed constitutional amendments.

After polls close, results will be posted at each polling place, and unofficial cumulative returns will appear on the state election website as counties report.
