BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham Police Department detectives opened a missing-person appeal Thursday for a 55-year-old woman who vanished after a Tuesday night downtown campaign gathering and has not checked in with relatives since that evening.

Police and family accounts place her last known stop at the Sheraton along 22nd Street and Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard during Doug Jones’ election-night watch party. Loved ones told investigators the silence has stretched past two full days, and phone tracking no longer returns a live location for her device.

When relatives stopped by her house Wednesday they found her dog alone and without food, and they still cannot locate her car. Officers circulated descriptors putting her near 5-foot-4 and roughly 130 pounds, last observed in light purple clothing with a darker skirt.

A River Region search note adds that she typically drives a dark gray Kia and keeps a dog carrier or bed in the rear seat. Anyone with a tip can call Birmingham police at 205-328-9311 about sightings near the hotel or elsewhere in the city.

Investigators have not publicly alleged a crime in the disappearance and are treating the case as an urgent locate request. They are canvassing the Sheraton block and nearby downtown corridors for cameras, witnesses and vehicle leads while the family continues to ask neighbors to watch for her car. Officials said tips remain welcome overnight as searchers work outward from the hotel district into surrounding Birmingham neighborhoods.
