During his service in the U.S. Naval Reserve Medical Corps from 1973 to 1975, Dr. Linn co-developed a cooling protocol for overheated recruits, which was successfully implemented at naval training sites across the South. Upon returning to UAB, he became an instructor and medical researcher, focusing on rheumatology throughout the 1970s, and contributed research to prominent medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine.
