Birmingham Woman’s Hearing Concludes in 2018 Stabbing Case
The latest development in Birmingham’s high-profile murder case has emerged as the accused, a 56-year old woman named Kuterah Benita Rich, was sentenced to prison over her former boyfriend’s fatal stabbing in 2018. Rich had previously pled guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter relating to the death of Antonio Pettaway in late 2023.
The Sentence
Jefferson County Circuit Judge Alaric May sentenced Rich to a 20-year prison stretch on Tuesday, with a mandatory minimum of five years to be served. Rich, up until her sentencing, was free on bond but was subsequently taken into custody at Jefferson County Jail.

On the evening of September 2, 2018, North Precinct officers arrived at 2525 37th Avenue North, following reports of a person being stabbed.
