About ‘Hadestown’

‘Hadestown’ stands as the most honored show of the 2018-2019 Broadway season. Beyond its Tony Awards®, it has received four Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical, and the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Musical.

The North American touring production stars Amaya Braganza as Eurydice, Lana Gordon as Persephone, Will Mann as Hermes, Matthew Patrick Quinn as Hades, and J. Antonio Rodriguez as Orpheus. The Workers Chorus is graced by the talent of Sevon Askew, Jamal Lee Harris, Cate Hayman, Quiana Onrea’l Holmes, and Daniel Tracht.

The producers of the show, Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy, expressed their excitement and humility at the opportunity to share this “beautiful story of hope, faith, and rebirth” with audiences across North America.

‘Hadestown’ is the celebrated work of singer-songwriter and Tony Award® winner Anaïs Mitchell, developed with innovative director and Tony Award® winner Rachel Chavkin. This marks the first time in over a decade that a woman has been the solo author of a musical, authoring the music, lyrics, and book — a feat only achieved four times in Broadway history.

The show opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway on April 17, 2019, where it played to sold-out houses nightly before performances were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The North American Tour opened at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC on October 15, 2021.

Blending modern American folk music with New Orleans-inspired jazz to reimagine a sweeping ancient tale, ‘Hadestown’ follows two intertwining love stories. The audience is taken on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back, showcasing industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers, and singers, ‘Hadestown’ delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.
