7 New + Coming Soon Businesses in Birmingham—Plus, One Local Restaurant We’re Saying Farewell To

Exciting changes are brimming in Birmingham as the city bids adieu to summer with the introduction of seven fresh businesses and sadly, the departure of a local restaurant favorite. This delightful mix of commerce sets the mood for a season of discovery and deliciousness.

Arriving Soon in Birmingham

1. Bin Depot | Bessemer

Have you ever pondered the destiny of items returned to Amazon? Bin Depot, a new store in Bessemer, resolves that mystery while providing a fun retail concept that allows customers to snag top-brand items at a discounted price. Open already, their tempting deals feature electronics, household goods, clothing, toys, and more.

2. The Carver Theatre | Theatre District

After five long years, the jewel of Birmingham’s crown, The Carver Performing Arts Theatre, showcasing the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, has reopened after a stunning full-scale renovation. A memorable opening ceremony celebrated this historic venue revealing a new exhibit that displays rich information and memorabilia of the Hall of Fame’s inductees.

3. The Edge | Homewood

Home to Baba Java Coffee + Popbar, B’ham Burgers, Shin Ramen, The Que*Bicle, and True40, the brand-new and much-awaited development in Homewood, The Edge, is welcoming its first guests with a soft opening as it finishes up its final preparations.

4. Joyland | Avondale

Prepping for an opening this August is the popular Nashville-based burger restaurant, Joyland, setting up shop in the former place of Rodney Scott’s. This arrival marks another delicacy destination for Avondale’s thriving food scene.

5. Urban Hai | Parkside

Bearing the banners of restaurateur Gary Lin and Chef Hai Wang, the Atlanta-based authentic Chinese restaurant, Urban Hai, is anticipated to open in the Denham Building in Parkside by the end of this year, serving an array of traditional dishes and Szechuan-style cuisine.

6. Board in Birmingham | Highway 280

The city is set to welcome its very first charcuterie, Board in Birmingham, near Greystone on Highway 280 this coming fall, adding another culinary attraction to Birmingham’s food scene.

7. Workout Anytime Gym | Irondale

And for those looking to stay in shape, the 24-hour gym, Workout Anytime, will be accessible seven days a week starting this December. Located in Irondale, the gym features full cardio and strength equipment, personal and group training sessions, and numerous other amenities.

Saying Goodbye to a Birmingham Favorite

Cantina | West Homewood

Meanwhile, the local food scene is losing a celebrated name in West Homewood, the Cantina Tortilla Grill. The Castros, the owners, promised they would channel all their efforts into their other venture, Sol Y Luna, their renowned restaurant in Lane Parke located near the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

As Birmingham bids farewell to Cantina and prepares to welcome a host of exciting new businesses, the city continues to prove that it’s a place of endless opportunities and gastronomic delights.
