Exciting Developments at Homewood City Council Meeting!

Homewood, it’s time to tune in! Our City Council recently gathered for a meeting that brought with it a wave of news and updates. On December 2, 2024, the atmosphere was buzzing with positivity as the council welcomed its newest member, Jody Brant, who was sworn in as the new Ward 3 representative. Jody is no stranger to hard work, and he has already jumped headfirst into the action by joining the finance and public safety committees. In his closing remarks, he couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. “I’m learning a lot,” he exclaimed, acknowledging the immense amount of information coming his way. “It’s like drinking water out of a fire hose trying to learn all this stuff.” We hear you, Jody!

Agenda Highlights

The meeting kicked off with the approval of the consent agenda, which included some great initiatives for our community. One of the key highlights was the proposal for educational signage and owl nesting boxes for the picturesque Shades Creek Greenway — how cool is that? Not to be overshadowed, they also addressed the much-needed street light placement on Oxmoor Road, right across from Mayfair Circle. This is sure to illuminate that busy intersection!

But wait, there’s more! The council took action on several important matters, including the surplus of several vehicles. Making space for new wheels, perhaps? They also gave the green light to CRI to conduct a NIST-based security audit and penetration test. Keeping our city secure is always a top priority.

Public Hearings and Variances

As part of their ongoing aims to enhance local business, the council set public hearings for two sign variance requests for December 16. These requests are from Fast Pace Health, located at 202 State Farm Parkway, and Baba Java, which calls 817 Green Springs Highway home. Residents are invited to join at city hall at 6 p.m. and make their voices heard.

Additionally, the council approved the consideration of Retail Beer and Wine licenses for Super Oriental Market and Red Paarl Restaurant. Cheers to more options for our local dining and grocery scenes!
