Alabama Nonprofit Offers New Resources to Help Families Overcome Relationship Barriers after Addiction Recovery and Trauma
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (May 15, 2025) – June is National Family Reunification Month. Is there hope for families to heal and reunify after trauma or when moms have lost their children due to drug addiction? Parent educator, author and founder of the Birmingham-based nonprofit, Seeds of Impact, Rachel Gunn, says, “Yes, and principle-based education can help lead the way.” Successful reunification for families in need is precisely what she and the Seeds of Impact team set out to accomplish.
“Although there are numerous barriers to overcome, parent education is a cornerstone to help recovering moms rebuild relationships and have meaningful connections with their children,” said Gunn, who has just released book two in the “Impact Parenting” series — the “Families Breaking Barriers” edition. The book provides guidance for parents seeking reunification after separation from their children, as well as for families facing the daunting task of rebuilding relationships after trauma.
A brief summary of the book includes: parenting foundations and styles, stages of parenting, breaking generational cycles, reunification principles, emotional regulation for both parents and children, rebuilding trust after trauma, and a range of strategies to help parents set healthy discipline boundaries in sensitive and caring ways.
Commemorating National Family Reunification Month, Seeds of Impact also offers a free downloadable guide for parents and families seeking to strengthen family relationships – “Family Reset Roadmap: A Guide to Renewing, Restoring & Moving Forward Together,” available at: https://www.seedsofimpact.org/resources.
To date, Seeds of Impact has coordinated 40 free parenting classes reaching more than 400 parents in the Birmingham region. Every parent attending a Seeds of Impact parenting class receives a free “Impact Parenting” book.
“Impact Parenting: Families Breaking Barriers” is also available on Amazon. A portion of proceeds from the book supports the mission of Seeds of Impact.
