Birmingham Teams Unite for a Good Cause!
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In a heartwarming show of community spirit, five beloved sports teams from this vibrant city are stepping up to tackle hunger head-on. The Birmingham Stallions, Birmingham Barons, Birmingham Bulls, Birmingham Legion FC, and Birmingham Squadron are coming together for the exciting BHM 5 Food Drive, running from November 7 to November 25. This initiative is all about gathering food donations to support those in need right here in central Alabama.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Each of these teams is eager to lend a helping hand. “We’re excited to participate in the BHM5 Food Drive again! It’s a fantastic chance to join forces with other Birmingham teams and make a positive impact in our community,” said Jay Heaps, President of Legion FC. His words echo the sentiments of many as sports teams rally together to create a meaningful change.
Leslie Claybrook, General Manager of the Birmingham Squadron, couldn’t agree more. “Giving back to the community that supports us is paramount to who we are as a team,” she shared. With a caring attitude like that, it’s clear these teams are dedicated to serving the Birmingham community.

Mark your calendars for November 27 as the teams will deliver all the gathered donations to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. “We’re coming together again to help those struggling with food scarcity and to bring awareness to the food bank. We need all the Stallions’ fans and Birmingham sports fans to come together and help us fill up a truckload of much-needed food items to donate during this holiday season,” urged Stallions Head Coach Skip Holtz.
How You Can Help
So, how can you help? It’s easy! Just swing by any of the designated drop-off locations in Birmingham with your donations. These teams have lined up a list of the most-needed items:
- Canned vegetables
- Canned fruit (preferably in juice, not syrup)
- Canned protein items like tuna, chicken, or beans
- Pasta
- Rice
- Peanut butter (because who doesn’t love a good PB&J?)
As a kind reminder, it’s best to avoid bringing in sodas, candy, junk food, alcoholic beverages, homemade items, open or used products, items in glass containers, or any perishable goods.

David Koonce, Vice President of Communications for the Birmingham Bulls, expressed his excitement: “The Bulls have had a wonderful relationship with CFOCA over the past few seasons.
