News Summary

Damien McDaniel faces 18 homicide charges including mass shootings in Birmingham, leading to 14 deaths over 14 months. Key incidents involved multiple victims, including first responders. The ongoing investigation is progressing as the legal proceedings continue against McDaniel, raising concerns over community safety and violent crime in the region.

Birmingham, Alabama – Damien McDaniel has been charged with 18 homicides in Jefferson County, including several mass shootings that have plagued the region from the summer of 2023 to 2024. The Birmingham Police Department has announced multiple warrants for McDaniel, linking him to a violent crime spree resulting in the deaths of 14 individuals over a period of approximately 14 months.

Among the most notable charges are those for the murders of Angeliyah Webster and Christian Norris, both 20, whose bodies were discovered two days after they were last seen. This incident adds to the growing list of serious allegations against McDaniel, as he is also facing charges in a homicide from 2024.

The timeline of McDaniel’s alleged criminal activity includes a series of violent incidents that have shocked the local community. On July 12, 2023, he was involved in an attack on first responders, shooting two firefighters, Jordan Melton and Jamal Jones, at Station 9; Melton succumbed to his injuries on July 17, and McDaniel has since been charged with his murder and attempted murder of Jones.

In addition to these grave charges, McDaniel was implicated in multiple other killings. On November 27, 2023, he and associate Lorenzo Wiley were charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting of Reginald Bryant, 52, and on January 10, 2024, he received charges for the intentional murder of 21-year-old Mia Nickson, whose body was found shot in a residential driveway.

Key details also include McDaniel’s alleged role in a mass shooting at Trendsetters Lounge on July 13, 2023, which resulted in multiple fatalities. He faces capital murder charges for at least four identified victims from that event and is charged in connection with Hatarius Woods, facing additional counts of first-degree assault.

McDaniel’s criminal record continues with accusations of capital murder for the death of 61-year-old Charlie Moore during a burglary on August 13, 2023. Following this, he was also charged with intentional murder related to the death of 35-year-old Diontranet Tinae Brown, shot at the 604 Bar & Lounge on September 19, 2023, shortly after which he was involved in another mass shooting outside the Hush Lounge that resulted in four deaths and 17 injuries.

Law enforcement also suspects McDaniel may have been involved in murder-for-hire schemes linked to several homicides sorted through the ongoing investigations. Specifically, charges have been filed against McDaniel related to the capital murder of Anthony Love Jr., a UPS employee who was fatally shot after work on April 9, 2024.

Furthermore, the authorities are investigating three additional suspects allegedly associated with McDaniel who face various charges, including capital murder and heroin trafficking. Notably, the case of Jordan Melton stands out, as he had been slated to be a key witness in a previous shooting case before he was killed.

Birmingham City Councilor LaTonya Tate expressed optimism regarding community support for families affected by McDaniel’s alleged actions and the ongoing efforts for justice.

Despite requests for a transfer to Jefferson County Jail, McDaniel has been denied and will remain incarcerated at Kilby Correctional Facility throughout the legal proceedings. As the investigation unfolds, further updates are anticipated, shedding light on the extent of McDaniel’s violent activities and the continuing effort by law enforcement to address the rising crime in the region.
