Birmingham Celebrates New Job Opportunities with Brasfield & Gorrie’s Headquarters Expansion

Birmingham, AL – Brasfield & Gorrie has celebrated the completion of a significant expansion to its headquarters in Birmingham’s Lakeview District. The newly constructed three-story facility spans 28,500 square feet and represents an investment of $18.9 million. This expansion has already generated 64 new jobs for the local community and is expected to contribute even more as the company aims to add a total of 85 headquarters jobs within the next five years.

Since announcing the growth project in January 2024, Brasfield & Gorrie’s expansion has materialized swiftly, with 75% of the new positions already filled. CEO Rob Blalock reaffirmed the company’s long-standing commitment to the Birmingham area, which has been its base of operations since 1964.

Support from Local and State Agencies

The expansion has received substantial support from the City of Birmingham, as well as Jefferson County and the State of Alabama. Ellen McNair, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, noted that this development reinforces Birmingham’s reputation as a hub for talent, innovation, and opportunity within the construction industry.

Growing Workforce and Operational Capacity

Following this expansion, Brasfield & Gorrie’s Birmingham headquarters now employs approximately 1,400 individuals. The company itself operates 13 offices across eight states, culminating in a total workforce of over 4,100 employees. The successful construction of the new facility was overseen by Pylon Building Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Brasfield & Gorrie that was established in 2023.

Investment in Employee Development

Alongside the headquarters expansion, Brasfield & Gorrie has also unveiled a new 9,650-square-foot Field Training Center located near Irondale. This facility is designed to offer accredited training programs and certifications, aiming to support employees in advancing their skills and career development.

Strengthening the Local Economy

As part of its commitment to contribute positively to the region’s economy, Brasfield & Gorrie’s expansion aligns with several notable projects within Alabama. Some recent initiatives include the construction of Southern Research’s new biotech center, renovations at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, development at Protective Stadium, and work at multiple Airbus facilities, alongside the HudsonAlpha’s Discovery Life Sciences greenhouse.

Company Recognition and Financial Impact

Brasfield & Gorrie has garnered significant recognition within the construction industry, ranking as the 22nd largest contractor on Engineering News-Record’s Top 400 list in 2024. The company reported an impressive $6.4 billion in revenue for the year, further underscoring its robust operational scale and influence in the region.

Pylon President Reggie Torbor highlighted the project’s contribution to the construction team’s growth, asserting that it provided invaluable experience in fostering independence and skill enhancement. This development not only signifies the company’s growth trajectory but also plays a vital role in enriching Birmingham’s employment landscape and local economy.
