Birmingham Man Faces Capital Murder Charges in Deadly Shootings that Shook Community

A 31-year-old man from Birmingham, Alabama, Kerry Jackson Jr. stands accused of heinous crimes following a quadruple shooting that tragically claimed two lives and left two injured. Jackson is facing multiple charges, including capital murder of two or more victims, capital murder in the course of a kidnapping, and two counts of attempted murder.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The reports indicate that the events leading to the shooting allegedly began when Jackson forced an adult female relative into his vehicle at gunpoint. He then reportedly compelled her to drive him between two shooting locations. The victims of the tragic incident, Laquitta Charisse Dunn, 49, and Anthony Jackson, 76 – the suspect’s grandfather – lost their lives in the gruesome act.

The occurrence has been linked to domestic issues, with insiders connected to the suspect indicating that he appears to have unexpectedly “snapped”. Jackson was apprehended less than five hours after the said shootings, with family and community members playing instrumental roles in his arrest.

The suspect’s father and another victim are currently admitted at UAB Hospital with both in critical condition following the incident.

The Timeline of Events

The violence started around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, when police, dispatched following reports of multiple shooting victims, arrived at a residence in the 1600 block of Dennison Avenue. Inside, they found Dunn gravely wounded; she was declared dead at the scene around 5:20 p.m.

Another victim of the Dennison Avenue shooting, the suspect’s father, was not at the scene when the police arrived. He later presented himself at Princeton Baptist Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and was subsequently transferred to UAB Hospital for specialized care.

Second Shooting Scene

After learning of the possibility of a second shooting scene nearby at 17th Place S.W., officers made their way there, entering the house where they found the suspect’s grandfather and a woman both hurt in a basement den area. Emergency services declared Jackson senior dead at approximately 5:50 p.m. while the lady was rushed to UAB Hospital with severe injuries.

Desperate Search and Subsequent Apprehension

With the suspect having fled before the arrival of the police, a large scale search was initiated, which ended in Five Points West around 9:15 p.m. with his arrest. Involved in the operation was Jefferson County’s Star 1 helicopter.

At both shooting locations, the victims were individuals known to the accused. As the news of this unsettling event spread, shocked family members and friends quickly gathered, their distraught reactions a haunting echo of the chilling crimes.

Jackson is now being held without bond as the investigations continue. In the wake of this horrific event, a community grieves the loss of life and contemplates the devastating impacts of this senseless act of violence.
