‘We want to close this case with facts’: BPD seeks witnesses in nightclub shootout

Marks blemishing the night’s revelry are still visible at the Quest nightclub in Birmingham. The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) is urging anybody present during a recent lethal shooting at the nightclub to come forward with any information that could aid their ongoing investigation.

Devastating fallout from a deadly duel

BPD officers called to Quest on the morning of May 24th, 2024, found themselves in the midst of a morbid scene with two men shot inside the club. It came to light that the two individuals had fired shots at each other, leading to their own demise. Terrance Terrell Brown, Jr., 32, laid lifeless on the site, while Shane Gady, also 32, succumbed to his injuries in hospital a few days later.

The mystery surrounding the fatal encounter

Despite having conclusive evidence that Brown and Gady shot each other, the BPD yet clings to a gap in their narrative. They want to know what instigated the altercation. “Right now we are still searching for witnesses to come forward… we don’t know what led to the shooting, and that is crucial for our investigators because we want to close this case with facts,” appealed Truman Fitzgerald, Birmingham Police Department’s Public Information Officer.

Security cam footage sheds partial light

The unfortunate event was partly captured on a security camera. The footage confirmed the dual gunfire between Brown and Gady, but it fell short of providing insights into the events preceding the violent confrontation. BPD urges anyone present during the night of May 23 or the morning of May 24 to step forward and help piece together the missing details.

We do know that witnesses were here, it’s just a matter of them coming forward and providing us with facts,” affirmed Fitzgerald. “You’re not taking sides, you’re just reporting the facts.”

Family ties and potential hostile environment

Family members confided to the police that the two deceased knew each other before heading to the Quest. Reports suggest that 10 to 15 people were present at the club during the clash, raising potential concerns of a hostile environment for potential witnesses to step forward. Addressing this, Fitzgerald reassured “They have nothing to fear coming forward, no judgement, we need closure for both of these families.

Why investigate when culprits are deceased?

Many may query the necessity of the ongoing investigations, seeing as both involved parties are deceased. However, Fitzgerald stresses on the crucial role of the detectives to investigate diligently until closure can be provided for both families. He further clarifies, “I think this shows, we don’t stop investigating until we all have the facts that we need.
