Birmingham – Brasfield & Gorrie, a prominent general contractor, has officially opened a new three-story, 28,500-square-foot expansion next to its headquarters in the Lakeview District of Birmingham. This significant expansion has an investment value of $18.9 million and has already resulted in the creation of 64 new jobs in the city. The project was initially announced in January 2024 and highlights the company’s commitment to strengthening its workforce and local presence.

The expansion, which has been completed by Pylon Building Group, a subsidiary of Brasfield & Gorrie, brings the total employee count at the Birmingham headquarters to approximately 1,400. Over the next five years, the company aims to increase its workforce by a total of 85 new jobs, with 75 percent of these positions already filled. This growth underscores the ongoing demand for skilled labor in Birmingham and the surrounding region.

The project received support from various local and state organizations, including the City of Birmingham and Jefferson County. Ellen McNair, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, acknowledged the expansion as a meaningful example of how local companies can succeed on a national scale while maintaining their roots in the community.

Brasfield & Gorrie’s commitment to the Birmingham area is a continuation of its operations since the company’s founding in 1964. The new headquarters expansion reinforces Birmingham’s status as a hub for talent and innovation in the construction sector. The installation enhances the company’s capability to execute a broad range of construction projects, leveraging the growing workforce and local expertise.

The company already has an extensive reach, with over 4,100 employees across 13 offices in eight states. Noteworthy projects within Alabama include the new biotech center for Southern Research, renovations at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and construction work on Protective Stadium, alongside developments for various Airbus facilities. These projects reflect Brasfield & Gorrie’s significant presence and influence in the state’s construction industry.

In addition to the expansion of the headquarters, Brasfield & Gorrie has also launched a new Field Training Center within Birmingham. The 9,650-square-foot facility is designed to provide training and certifications to employees, facilitating career advancement opportunities within the organization, regardless of their previous experience. This initiative aims to empower workers to grow alongside the company and reinforces Brasfield & Gorrie’s dedication to workforce development.

The recent headquarters expansion is aligned with Brasfield & Gorrie’s long-term strategic growth plan that emphasizes local employment and investment in community infrastructure. This commitment not only bolsters the company’s operational capabilities but also contributes to the economic vitality of Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

As the company continues to evolve and expand, it remains focused on innovation and the cultivation of talent, which are essential for meeting the demands of the construction industry in Alabama and beyond. The recent developments at Brasfield & Gorrie indicate promising growth for the local economy and the construction sector as a whole.
