Central Alabama Experiences Record Warmth in November

Central Alabama’s November Turns Up the Heat!

Hey there, Birmingham! Get ready to chat about some sizzling statistics from November that got us all wondering if we accidentally skipped to spring! This past month has been unseasonably warm across our lovely central Alabama, and we’ve got the numbers to back it up!

Hot Days, Warm Nights

Let’s dive right into those temperatures, shall we? Out of 30 days in November, a whopping 24 days registered temperatures above the average. For those keeping score, November 7th hit a steamy record high of 86°F, turning up the thermostat more than we’re used to this time of year! You could say it felt more like summer than fall!

Now, we did have a few cooler days as we wrapped up the month, with just three days falling below average in terms of high temperatures. But boy, did the cold fronts come knocking at the door towards the end! Some nights brought us back down to chilly insights that reminded us winter is not just a figment of our imagination.

Mild Nights, Warm Average

On the topic of nighttime, while some might have grabbed their sweaters in late November, the overall average temperature for the month was a quite balmy 61.2°F. That’s a whole 7.2°F above the typical monthly average of 54.0°F! Talk about a warm November! This makes it the third warmest November on record for our area, all the way back to 1895. That’s not too shabby, right?

Rainfall: Just Enough

Now, let’s chat about rain. Birmingham saw a total of 4.28 inches of rainfall, which is pretty much right in line with our average of 4.23 inches. It wasn’t a deluge; rather, it was just enough to keep our gardens thriving and our rivers flowing.

A Year of Warmth

It’s worth noting that while November may have taken the cake for the warmest month this year, it certainly wasn’t the only month to sizzle above average! In fact, a remarkable 10 out of the 11 months so far in 2024 have graced us with warmer-than-normal temperatures. The only month with a chill was good ‘ol January—though it can certainly pack a wintry punch!

Looking Ahead to December

With December upon us, forecasts suggest we might be in for a near-normal or slightly cooler stretch. So, keep those jackets handy just in case! Who knows what this month will bring in terms of temperature?

Stay Tuned!

As we wave goodbye to November and step into December, it’s always wise to stay updated on our ever-changing weather. Make sure to keep an eye out for updates and forecasts as we navigate through the chilly—and hopefully cozy—season ahead!

So what do you think about the unseasonably warm November, Birmingham? Did you enjoy the extra warmth or were you yearning for a taste of classic fall? One thing is for sure; it’s been a month to remember!
