Erica Barnes Grant, who chairs the DBC, highlighted the necessity of supporting minority businesses despite the challenges they confront.
Kyle South, the President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, acknowledged the summit as an opportunity for businesses to learn from each other’s experiences. The DBC also offers advocacy, educational, and networking events throughout the Tuscaloosa area to further support its members and the business community.
During the event, the SBA recognized Kimberly and Larry Lewis of PROJECTXYZ, INC. as Alabama’s 2025 Small Business Persons of the Year. This honor showcased their significant contributions to the small business landscape in the state. Alongside the awards, the Alabama Small Business Development Center network provided assistance and resources to all honorees present at the summit.
In conjunction with the diversity summit, Chick-fil-A announced plans to open a new quick-service restaurant in Northport, which is expected to create about 90 jobs. This new location, operated by long-time owner Ashley Gill, is set to open on April 24. To give back to the community, Chick-fil-A plans to donate surplus food to the Tuscaloosa Community Soup Bowl and contribute $25,000 to the West Alabama Food Bank.
