I-59 Shooting in Birmingham: One Man Dead, Another Injured

In a tragic turn of events, a shooting incident on I-59 in Birmingham on Saturday night has left one person dead and another injured. Local law enforcement responded to the incident that occurred near the 1st Avenue North Exit, arriving on the scene at approximately 10 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired.

The Incident: Two Men Found in Vehicle Off Roadway

Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle off the roadway. Inside the vehicle were two men suffering from gunshot wounds. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Javonte Demorris McDonald, who died on the scene. The other man, who remains unidentified, was taken to UAB Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation: Potential Targeted Shooting

Following preliminary investigations, Birmingham Police believe that an unknown suspect fired shots into the victims’ vehicle, indicating that this may have been a targeted event. While the investigation is still ongoing, no one is currently in custody in relation to the shooting incident.
