Terrific New Theatre Opening Soon: First Look at Upcoming Shows

After a four-year hiatus prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Terrific New Theatre (TNT) is set to make a grand comeback to the Birmingham theatre scene. With a spanking new facility and an abridged 2024-2025 theatrical season chalked out, TNT is poised to provide a much-needed boost to the local art landscape.

A Tour of the Terrific New Theatre

TNT, a non-profit theatre in operation since 1986, was forced to bow out of the Pepper Place location due to the pandemic. Now, after a four-year pause, it is set to return with a new theatre situated in downtown Birmingham, libbing a delayed dream.

“We lost our space at Pepper Place, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise… Now, we’re able to make something bigger and better than we ever had, which was always the dream of Carl Stewart,” says Tam DeBolt, Executive Director at TNT.

The Terrific New Theatre is set up in the erstwhile Alabama Auction Room building located at 2112 5th Avenue North. Boasting a sizeable 7,500-square-foot space, the theatre can host up to 100 guests and provides ample room for the theatrical staff and actors.

TNT’s 2024-2025 Theatrical Season

TNT recently announced its abridged 2024-2025 “mini-season,” featuring four exciting shows:

“Sunday in the Park with George” (November 21 – December 8)
The Pulitzer Prize-winning musical penned by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, revolves around George Seurat’s iconic painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.”

“POTUS” (February 20 – March 9)
Written by Selena Fillinger and making its premiere in Birmingham, the hilarious comedy “POTUS” showcases the lives of the women surrounding the President of the United States, featuring characters from the First Lady to his Press Secretary.

“Tiny Beautiful Things” (April 10 – 27)
Adapted from the book by Cheryl Strayed, this production profiles an unemployed writer fulfilling the role of a volunteer newspaper advice columnist, using her profound empathetic and listening skills.

“The Minutes” (June 12 – 29)
Ridden with dark humor, this Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning creation by Tracy Letts is set in a City Council meeting in the fictional town of Big Cherry.

Fans can look forward to a riveting “2024-25 Mini-Season: The Return of TNT” at the Terrific New Theatre, bringing much-loved and new performances alike. The theatre revitalization project marksa notable achievement for TNT and the broader Birmingham community’s arts scene.
