Chelsea, AL – Donald L. Abbott, aged 83, died on June 11, 2025. A resident of Chelsea, Abbott was recognized for his dedication to family and his work as a machinist throughout his life.
Originally from Cullman, AL, Abbott joined the Army after completing high school, serving honorably for two years before returning to civilian life. He pursued higher education, graduating from the University of Montevallo. On June 1, 1968, he married June Ramsey. Following their wedding, the couple established their home in Birmingham, AL, where they built a life together.
Donald Abbott devoted much of his career to the field of machining, working continuously until his retirement from Davis Machine in Calera in 2011. Known for his mechanical skills, he took joy in working on cars and spending time on yard work at home.
In his personal life, Abbott was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, June, as well as his parents, Olen and Dera Abbott. He leaves behind a family that includes two children, Scott Abbott (Liza) and Stacey Abbott, along with two grandchildren, Alyssa and Sam Abbott. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Terry Abbott (Louise), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
A funeral service to honor Donald Abbott’s life is scheduled for June 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Fairview in Cullman, AL. Attendees will have the opportunity to pay their respects during a visitation held one hour prior to the service. Following the funeral, a committal service will take place at the church’s adjoining cemetery.
