Birmingham’s Slutty Vegan Set to Reopen After Months of Closure

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a few months of being closed, the beloved vegan fast-food joint, Slutty Vegan, is making its much-anticipated return this weekend. Located in Woodlawn, this restaurant first opened its doors in 2022 and quickly gained a reputation for its fun, cheeky menu featuring plant-based fast food with playful names such as “Menage a Trois” and “Hollywood Hooker”.

New Beginnings for an Old Favorite

The grand reopening is scheduled for this Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. Following the opening, the restaurant will adopt a new schedule: open Tuesdays through Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 9 p.m..

The first Slutty Vegan was launched in Atlanta in 2018 by Pinky Cole-Hayes, who has now brought her vision to Birmingham. Cole-Hayes remarked on the exciting opportunity to welcome back regulars and new customers alike. “We are excited for people to come back,” she said, hinting at some changes in staff roles for those returning to the Birmingham location.

Aiming for Community Integration

In June, Slutty Vegan announced its temporary closure, prompting Cole-Hayes to reassess the business’s vision. To help facilitate a smooth reopening and better connect with the local community, she brought in Reatta Hall, who has been with Cole-Hayes at the Atlanta location, to take charge of the Woodlawn operations. Cole-Hayes emphasized her intent to integrate the business more deeply into the community, saying, “People love this brand, and we have the locals always supporting and elevating and making sure we know we’re there.”

A Growing Brand with National Recognition

Slutty Vegan is no stranger to growth, with 11 locations across the country, including sites in Harlem and on the campus of Spelman College. Cole-Hayes strategically launched the Woodlawn location as an experiment to gauge the Birmingham market’s response to the vegan fast-food offerings.

Looking ahead, Cole-Hayes has not ruled out the possibility of expanding further into Birmingham, mentioning the idea of a Slutty Vegan food truck. She expressed interest in franchising to amplify the brand’s visibility nationwide but is currently focusing on cultivating her presence city by city.

Community Expectations

The reopening is expected to welcome both loyal fans of Slutty Vegan and new customers eager to try vegan fast food with a twist. Cole-Hayes expressed her gratitude towards the Birmingham community’s support during her time in the city, noting that this new chapter aims to benefit everyone involved.

Conclusion

As the weekend approaches, excitement is palpable in Woodlawn. The return of Slutty Vegan appears poised to be a delightful addition to the local dining scene once again. Residents can look forward to grabbing their favorite vegan bites all while enjoying the restaurant’s playful and engaging atmosphere.
