Milky Way Ice Cream Bar Brings Sweet Treats to Southside

In Southside, dessert lovers have a brand new destination to satisfy their sweet cravings – the Milky Way Ice Cream Bar. This all-new dessert establishment was officially launched on Saturday, June 22nd at 1405 15th Street South, occupying the former Wilson’s Hot and Sweet Café space.

The Birth of Milky Way Ice Cream Bar

The brainchild of local entrepreneur Hussain-Ali Mithani, this stellar ice cream bar has developed from an idea to a full-fledged dessert parlor offering up to 21 different flavors of the frosty delight. Mithani’s family owns and operates “Wilson’s Market”, and he saw potential in a space next to the market which was previously used as storage.

In Mithani’s words, “I had the idea to try something new; an area bereft of many options for desserts. I had some savings and decided to blend my passion for desserts with my love for space, and that’s how the Milky Way Ice Cream Bar was born.”

A Hit with Locals and Students

Since its opening, the Milky Way Ice Cream Bar has resonated with residents and students from UAB, just a few blocks away. Whether it’s Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, or their distinctive flavors like Playdoh Superman, Cow Tippin’, and Majestic Milky Way, there’s something for everyone. One of the intriguing future additions to the menu would be alcohol-infused ice cream options.

More than just Ice Cream

Beyond ice cream sourced from Blue Bell Creameries and Ashby’s Sterling Ice Cream, everything else on the menu, from milkshakes and sundaes to snow cones and brownies, is all homemade. The business owner is particularly proud of the homemade brownies, “Every person that tries the brownies falls in love,” shared Mithani.

International Desserts on Offer

To cater to the international students around the area, the Milky Way Ice Cream Bar offers a variety of global desserts such as lassi, falooda, and kulfis. Mithani says, his aim is to provide these students a sweet taste of home.
