Wide Range of Birmingham Park and Recreation Camps Enrolling Now

Birmingham, Ala. – The City of Birmingham Park and Recreation department is offering summer camp opportunities in 9 distinct locations across the city, catering to children of ages 5 to 12. These camps promise a blend of fun-filled learning with various job opportunities for older children.

Counselors and Lifeguards Wanted

There is also an active call for camp counselors and lifeguards to work in the city pools this summer, with training available for those who aren’t yet certified. As David Primus, Superintendent of Birmingham Parks & Rec, stated, “Safety is our number one priority. We have field trips scheduled.”

Primus further shared, “Each individual camp has its own separate field trip. We are going to the library, the museum, and the McWane Center, all different types of fun activities for the kids. Not only is it an opportunity to go out, but some of those locations do have swimming pools, so not only is it an opportunity for the kids to swim, but they have an opportunity to get swim lessons.”

Summer Camps within Walking Distance Locally

The initiative to launch these camps in areas such as Fountain Heights, Ensley, Central Park, and Inglenook is designed with local accessibility in mind. Camp locations are within walking distance for many families, thanks to Primus and his team. The camps will be held across two sessions in June and July, costing $150 per session.
