Birmingham, Alabama, was buzzing with excitement this past weekend as the UAB Track & Field team put on a spectacular show at the Vulcan Invite on February 8, 2025, followed by their performance at the Green and Gold Invite on February 9. This impressive two-day event saw several blazing performances, with athletes breaking records and setting personal bests, all under the watchful eye of enthusiastic fans.

A Record-Breaking Weekend for Christiana Mudd

Headlining the weekend was none other than Christiana Mudd, who made waves in the Pentathlon. Mudd shattered the school record for the most points in this demanding event, clinching victory in four out of five categories. Her final score of 3,832 points not only set a new benchmark for UAB but also ranked her third in the country this season within the American Conference. What an exhilarating achievement!

Shot Put Success: Franck-Petersen Shines

Meanwhile, Birthe Franck-Petersen brought the crowd to their feet with her personal best in the Shot Put. She propelled the shot a remarkable 13.50 meters, making her performance the third-best in UAB’s history! Her strong throw placed her fifth out of 41 competitors, showcasing just how fiercely competitive the event was. Not to be outdone, Mya McDanal also shone in the Shot Put, setting her personal record at 10.22 meters.

Jumping for Joy in the Long Jump and High Jump

In the Long Jump, Juliana Patton leapt her way to a seventh-place finish with an impressive distance of 5.38 meters. Meanwhile, Hope Foster dominated the High Jump, securing second place with a jump of 1.63 meters (5′ 4 ¼”). Both athletes showcased their grit and talent, capturing the hearts of the audience.

Fast Times and Strong Finishes

The excitement continued as Taylor Washington nearly advanced to the finals of the 60m Hurdles, clocking in at 8.99 seconds. At the same time, Corinne Ball set a personal record with her time of 9.13 seconds. In the 200m, Gabby Washington sprinted to a ninth-place finish out of 66 runners, crossing the line with a stellar time of 24.83 seconds, which is now the 11th fastest in UAB history!

Regina Harris kept the momentum going in multiple events, including a solid fourth-place finish in the 400m with a time of 2:17. She also showcased her talent again in another heat, placing second with an impressive time of 59.16 seconds. In the 1 Mile race, the UAB team really came together, with Lidia Longo taking the crown at 5:03, followed closely by teammates Lia Castillo, Sangie Lincoln-Velez, and Anna Behmer securing top finishes in the rankings.

More Personal Bests in Pole Vault and Sprints

The Pole Vault was another highlight, featuring Noelle Hambrick achieving a personal record of 3.71 meters (12′ 2″), landing her fourth place. Victoria Freeland and Alana McCulla also impressed with their jumps, with Alana setting her personal record as well.

As the weekend wrapped up, fans and athletes alike couldn’t be more thrilled with the results.
