Birmingham-area Verizon Wireless Stores Donate $3M Worth of Backpacks

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A grand initiative is in progress where local Verizon Wireless authorized retailer, Round Room, is giving away a whopping $3 million worth of free backpacks. The charitable event is part of the 12th Annual “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway”, occurring across three Alabama locations this coming Sunday. The intent of this move is to relieve some of the financial strain families face during the back-to-school season.

Alleviating Back-to-School Burdens

Backpacks have a knack for being one of the most expensive items featuring on school supply lists. Particularly, the average outlay on school supplies per family has surged to reach approximately $890. As such, this initiative will come in as a much-needed shot in the arm for families across Birmingham.

It is estimated that hundreds of families will be in attendance to receive a free backpack and partake in family-oriented activities. In an attempt to cater to specific school district regulations and needs, select stores will also be offering clear backpacks.

Event Details and Locations

The 12th Annual “Schools Rock Backpack Giveaway” is being organized on Sunday, July 28, at the following Verizon locations:

  • 5907 Trussville Crossing Pkwy Ste 113
  • 10462 Highway 5
  • 1836 Ashville Rd. – Store offering clear backpacks

A Long-Standing Tradition

Since 2013, this initiative has successfully provided over 1.3 million children with a backpack. It has become a veritable tradition in the area, serving as a major annual event in the community. The initiative is expected to keep growing in magnitude and reach, making a significant impact on the community.

With the forthcoming prize of $3 million worth of free backpacks distributed amongst families in need, this 12th Annual “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway” is set to mark a milestone in the philanthropic history of Round Room.
